Kangkong in oyster sauce is a simple vegetable dish consisting of green leafy vegetables are known locally in the Philippines as kangkong, oyster sauce, and some seasoning. Kangkong is also called the water spinach. The Chinese variety is known as ongchoy. This variety is more easy to find here in North America-particularly in Asian groceries or shops in the Philippines.

This oyster sauce recipe in Kangkong are so quick and easy. You will have Your healthy vegetable dishes prepared in a matter of minutes. It is considered a side dish that can be eaten with rice and main dishes like sweet and sour pork, chicken or citrus kung-pao chicken. I also would like to have it with kung-pao shrimp and char-siu (barbecue pork).

Materials

  • 1 bunch spinach Ongchoy or water kangkong, cleaned
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of roasted garlic
  • ¾ Cup beef broth
  • ½ teaspoon cornstarch
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes are optional
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds optional
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Split leaf stalk kangkong. Cut stems into 2 inch long pieces. Set aside.

  3. In a bowl, combine beef broth, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil (preferably one that is used to make Roast garlic) fried in a pan.
